It's Checkers Day aka Dogs in Politics Day!

Dog lovers, rejoice!  Today is “Dogs in Politics day," celebrating the famous dogs of politicians.  The 23rd of September marks a famous speech by Richard Nixon during a 30 min TV debate, wherein he spoke about finances, but most memorably his dog Checkers the Cocker Spaniel!

To kick us off on our celebration of political pups, we’ll give you some facts about Cocker Spaniels:

  • Cocker Spaniels are anywhere from 14” to 17” high.

  • They can live about 12 to 15 years!

Today, September 21st, is the International Day of Peace.  This worldwide holiday was established in 1981 by the United Nations, promoting a day for all of humanity to commit to a vow of peaceful coexistence above all their differences.  Each year this day also carries a theme on which countries and communities may focus; this year’s theme is “Shaping Peace Together.”

Today marks the start of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah - which runs from September 18th through September 20th this year.  Rosh Hashanah is both a time for rejoicing and celebrating, as well as one of serious, personal introspection.
