We really love New York City in the autumn!  The air is cooler. The trees in the parks are vivid and bright.  The usual daily rush gives way to holiday happiness as our friends and family arrive for extended stays.  Iced coffee at our favourite cafes gives way to PSLs.  Did you know.... On less than a tank of gas, we can access some of the most beautiful scenery unspoiled by man, in the Hudson Valley or the Catskills Mountains!

It's Checkers Day aka Dogs in Politics Day!

Dog lovers, rejoice!  Today is “Dogs in Politics day," celebrating the famous dogs of politicians.  The 23rd of September marks a famous speech by Richard Nixon during a 30 min TV debate, wherein he spoke about finances, but most memorably his dog Checkers the Cocker Spaniel!

To kick us off on our celebration of political pups, we’ll give you some facts about Cocker Spaniels:

  • Cocker Spaniels are anywhere from 14” to 17” high.

  • They can live about 12 to 15 years!

Today, September 21st, is the International Day of Peace.  This worldwide holiday was established in 1981 by the United Nations, promoting a day for all of humanity to commit to a vow of peaceful coexistence above all their differences.  Each year this day also carries a theme on which countries and communities may focus; this year’s theme is “Shaping Peace Together.”
